Hacker Groups Exploit Vulnerabilities to Target US Government Systems

Some of the most important government networks have recently been breached by hackers who have exploited vulnerabilities through VPN and Windows bugs. In a joint security alert issued by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), the attacks have affected federal, state, local, and territorial government networks.

The CISA was also aware of instances where the breach resulted in access to important election support systems, according to reports by the agency. To clarify, CISA reported no evidence that the integrity of the election data has been compromised.

The two agencies also highlighted vulnerabilities in VPN and gateway products can give hackers access by exchanging the Fortinet bug for any vulnerability in VPN systems.
